MSP LNC 2011

MSP LNC 2011: Paper Session Presentations

The main meeting included presentation breakout sessions for MSP projects to share with each other what they are in the process of learning about student success, and to learn from and with each other in the context of the conference strands. All MSP projects were encouraged to consider presenting aspects of their work aligned with one of the two conference strands:

Strand 1: Definitions of and research designs related to student success
(abstracts must address at least one of the following)

  • Innovative understandings of student success, including some of the following: academic achievement, retention in school, interest, motivation, attainment, growth, cultural congruence, learning trajectories.
  • Theoretical frameworks for studying student STEM success, related to achievement gaps, dropouts, disinterest, poor participation in STEM courses, limited opportunities to learn, low post-secondary participation, differential success rates, or cultural in-congruities.
  • Innovation in MSP research design and measurement of student success; abstracts in this section are expected to address the role of STEM faculty in student success.

Strand 2: The use of student data to inform and refine MSP work
(abstracts must address at least one of the following)

  • Examination of the links between professional development and data on student success.
  • Use of evidence related to student success to inform classroom practice.
  • Use of evidence related to student success to inform MSP decision making, such as MSPs formative use of data related to student success.
  • Use of evidence related to student success to inform policy or systemic change at the district or university levels.
