Computational Science and Engineering at Istanbul Technical University
Abstract
"Computational science and engineering (CSE) education is growing all over the world. It initially started as an overlap of computer science, mathematics, and science and engineering, but through the years, it has evolved into a discipline of its own, with a broad platform for both research and education. CSE has two main characteristics: the science and engineering of computation, and science and engineering done com- putationally. Educators are also using CSE's integrative nature to explore it as an inquiry-based, project-oriented, and constructivist pedagogy, whose impact goes beyond its disciplinary nature. Although there is no standard or accredited curriculum in this multidisciplinary field yet, several departments, institutes, and programs have adapted variations of a sound education."Copyright © 2009 by Gurkan Soykan, Senol Piskin, and Osman Yasar Hasan Dag and SCOLLARCITY MSP, Istanbul Technical University, SUNY Brockport.
